My name is Cristian Siperioni, I am 33 years old, Italian and I started pilot training in September 2016.
It had always been my dream to fly – so I couldn’t give up but I knew getting a pilot’s licence was very expensive. After completing my Aeronautical studies in Secondary school I decided to join the Army’s aviation division for a year. My plan was that I would find an easier and cheaper way to achieve my life-long dream of becoming a pilot. But I soon realised it was not possible – so I quit. I tried a different route. I sent my CVs to all the airlines to apply for a roles as a technician, but I had no previous experience so this turned out to be another dead end.
It was my dream, so I couldn’t give up just yet. I re-applied to the airlines, this time to become a flight attendant, and I eventually secured my first job at 21 years of age. I flew all over the world and saw some amazing places – which I am sure I would never had got the chance to see without this job.
I loved it – but something was missing. I began to feel like I was wasting my time. I was traveling – but just not in the way I wanted to. After 10 years as Cabin Crew I had saved enough money, and it was time for a change. It was time to fulfil my dream of becoming a pilot!
The best advice I can give to someone who is thinking about making that career change is to believe in your abilities! With commitment and dedication you can make your dreams a reality. Don’t waste any more time thinking - just do it!
